My evaluation of VMware vSphere 4.1 esx server installed on HP Proliant bl460c g6 with Emulex LPe1205-HP 8Gb FC HBA. FC network consist from HP Brocade 4/12 switches and EMC Brocade 48000 directors. I have 2 disk arrays. One of them is EMC Clariion CX4-960 and another one is SUN StorageTek 2540. Zoning and masking were done correctly and only one path for testing purposes was used. I want to use npiv for StotageTek lun. I have created virtual machine with own WWNs, and connected RDM lun in physical mode.
If first discovered StorageTek lun then I can see it at vmhba0:0:0:0. And everything is working just fine. I can see VM wwns in nsshow as it was expected.You can see vmkenel log in npiv-work.txt attachment.
In other cases if StorageTek lun discovered through vmhba with target id not 0 and then npiv doesn't work. You can see this case in npiv-not-work.txt attachment.
I have repeated such experiments many times activating and deactivating fc fabric zone. Results always the identical. Any ideas?
